What you get
We grind it below grade. You get your yard back.
Stump and surface roots ground out, the hole left ready to sod or plant. Every Triad stump job covers the six items below.
-
Depth + Access Check, Price in Writing
We measure the stump, check gate width and soft ground for the grinder, and give you a firm number before we start.
-
Utilities Located First
We have lines located before the wheel touches dirt and keep clear of power, gas, irrigation, and septic. No surprises underground.
-
Ground 4–6 Inches Below Grade
Low enough to cover with soil and sod, or replant in the same spot. Not a shave off the top that sprouts back next spring.
-
Surface Roots Chased Down
Visible feeder roots that lift the lawn or trip you up get ground down too, not just the main stump.
-
Backfill or Haul-Off, Your Call
Rake the grindings back into the hole as free mulch, or we haul them out and you top it with soil. Either way the area gets cleaned up.
-
One Price, Pay After You Approve
One written number per stump or one for the lot. Look it over when we’re done, then settle up. Cash, check, or card.

What Our Neighbors Say
Real reviews from real Triad homeowners. We’re proud to earn each one.
Walter and his son did a great job cutting my 2 large trees down all the way to the stump. His price was very reasonable and his customer service was great. I will use him again and I will recommend him to friends and colleagues.
I was extremely pleased with the service I received. They cut down several trees and cleared a large section of bushes in my backyard. They were pleasant and efficient and the cost was very reasonable.
Very friendly and courteous. Service was very reasonable. They arrived promptly and did an excellent job and clean up. Highly recommended!

Know what you’re dealing with
What kind of stump grinding job is yours?
A 10-inch ornamental stump is a completely different job than a 36-inch oak in a tight backyard. Here’s how we size grinding work.
Cat 01
Small Stump
Under 12 in · Single stump · Open access
A small ornamental stump, an old crape myrtle, or any single stump under a foot across. Hand grinder in and out, half hour on site.
- Stump under 12 in diameter
- Single stump
- Hand grinder
- 30 min to 1 hour
- Chips raked or hauled
Cat 02
Standard Stump
12–24 in · Self-propelled grinder · Standard access
The most common grinding job. A mid-size hardwood stump in a residential yard. Self-propelled grinder takes it below grade in 1–2 hours. Sod-ready when we leave.
- Stump 12 to 24 in diameter
- Self-propelled grinder
- 6–8 in below grade
- 1–2 hours on site
- Chips piled or hauled
Cat 03
Large or Cluster
24 in+ · Multiple stumps · Tight access
Big oaks, multiple stumps clustered together, or tight-access backyards through a 36-inch gate. Often a mix of grinders depending on what fits. Half day on site, sometimes longer.
- Stump 24 in+ or multiple stumps
- Self-propelled + hand grinder mix
- Tight-access work when needed
- Half day to full day
- All chips piled or hauled
Stump Grinding FAQ
The questions we hear most often before a quote. If yours isn’t here, call us — we’ll answer in plain language.
How much does stump grinding cost?
Small ornamentals are on the low end. Big hardwoods or clusters of stumps are on the high end. Cost scales with stump diameter, access, and how many you’ve got. Free same-day quote is the only honest way to give you a number.
How deep do you grind?
Below grade as standard, which is enough to sod over, plant grass, or put down landscaping. If you’re planning to plant a new tree in the same spot, ask us to go deeper — we can take it 12+ inches for replanting.
Do you remove the chips, or leave them?
Your call. Many customers want the chips left as mulch — we’ll rake them into a pile by the bed or wherever you want. If you want them hauled off, that’s a separate line item but easy to add.
Can grass grow back over the spot?
Yes, but the chips need to be removed or thinned first — they decompose for a year or two and pull nitrogen out of the soil. Once you’ve raked back the chips and added some topsoil, sod or seed goes down fine.
Can you grind close to my house, fence, or sprinkler lines?
Yes. Tell us about any sprinkler heads, irrigation lines, or buried utilities before we start so we can flag them. We work within a foot of fences and structures regularly without damage.
How long does it take?
Most single stumps under 24 inches: 30 minutes to 2 hours. Larger stumps or clusters: half day. We don’t bill by the hour — flat quote, done when we say.
Do you grind exposed roots too?
If you want them ground, yes. Surface roots radiating out from the stump are quoted as an add-on since they add time. Just tell us before we start and we’ll include them in the written quote.
Refer a friend and you both get $50. Plus discounts for seniors, military & first responders.
