We grind the stump. We leave the lawn ready to plant.
Grind depth specified in writing. Grindings raked back into the hole or hauled, your choice. Surrounding lawn protected. Every High Point grind quote covers the six items below, at the price we name on day one.
-
Stump Diameter + Grind Depth in Writing
Measured at the ground line, with the target depth below grade — typical 4 to 8 inches for replanting grass, 12 to 18 inches if you’re planting a new tree in the same spot.
-
Self-Propelled Grinder for the Job
Self-propelled grinder for standard stumps, narrow-track hand grinder for tight-access backyards through a 36-inch gate. We match the machine to the access before we ever roll up.
-
Root Flare Cleanup
Surface roots radiating from the stump are ground down with the main flare, so the spot lies flat once you cover it. No tripping ridges left behind in the grass.
-
Lawn Protected, Lines Marked
Call 811 before we show up; we mark the underground locates so the grinder stays clear of gas, water, and fiber. Plywood under the grinder treads on soft ground.
-
Grindings Hauled OR Raked Back
Your call. Raked back fills the hole and looks like mulch in a day. Hauled away is the cleaner finish if you’re sodding right after.
-
Pay After You Approve
No deposit, no upfront pressure. Walk the finished spot, then settle up. Cash, check, or major card. Multi-stump discount on the same trip.
Before. After. The same stump.
A recent stump grind, start to finish: from a raised, tripping-hazard stump to ground level, raked and ready for sod.
What Triad Homeowners Say
Real reviews from real Triad homeowners. We’re proud to earn each one.
Walter and his son did a great job cutting my 2 large trees down all the way to the stump. His price was very reasonable and his customer service was great. I will use him again and I will recommend him to friends and colleagues.
I was extremely pleased with the service I received. They cut down several trees and cleared a large section of bushes in my backyard. They were pleasant and efficient and the cost was very reasonable.
Very friendly and courteous. Service was very reasonable. They arrived promptly and did an excellent job and clean up. Highly recommended!

Same-Day Quotes

How big is the stump? How deep do you want it gone?
A 10-inch dogwood stump is a 20-minute job. A 36-inch oak stump is a multi-hour grind. Here’s how we size a grind so you know what you’re paying for before we ever pull up in High Point.
Small
Under 12″ diameter · 4″ below grade · Standard access
A typical yard-tree stump from a removed ornamental or small shade tree. One pass with the grinder, grindings raked back into the hole. In and out in under an hour. Common for dogwoods, crepe myrtles, and trees under 30 feet that came down recently.
- Stump under 12″ diameter
- Grind 4″ below grade
- Self-propelled grinder
- 30-minute job
- Grindings raked or hauled
Standard
12 to 24″ diameter · 8–12″ below grade · Yard access
The everyday grind. A mature shade-tree stump from a recent removal, ground deep enough for sod or new grass. Multiple passes, root-flare cleanup around the perimeter, lawn protected throughout.
- Stump 12 to 24″ diameter
- Grind 8 to 12″ below grade
- Root flare cleanup
- Lawn and irrigation protected
- Grindings raked or hauled
Large
24″+ diameter · 12–18″ deep · Replanting depth
Big-tree stumps from heritage oaks, hickories, and elms. Deep grind to make the spot replantable for a new shade tree. Surface root system traced out and ground flush. Takes hours, not minutes — but the spot is genuinely ready for new growth.
- Stump 24″+ diameter
- Grind 12 to 18″ below grade
- Surface roots traced and ground
- Replantable spot when finished
- Grindings hauled by default

This is our home yard
High Point is the home shop
The shop is in High Point. The grinder lives on the trailer here, the trucks fuel up here, and the spare teeth for the cutter wheel are in the toolbox right here. That isn’t a marketing line, it’s the operational reality: for a High Point stump grind, there’s no drive time to bake into the quote and no fuel surcharge to apologize for. An Eastchester customer who calls at seven in the morning gets the grinder on their stump by ten. Other towns get an honest drive-time conversation. High Point gets the home-shop schedule.
We grind the whole city. The mature oak and hickory stumps from removals in Emerywood and Sherwood are the deep-grind work — 12 to 18 inches down so the spot can hold a new shade tree on a hundred-year horizon. Out toward Jamestown Road and the Skeet Club area there’s the leftover-pine stumps from clearing for newer construction — standard 8-inch grinds, sod laid right over them. Closer in, the streets off Main and Eastchester have the smaller ornamental stumps — dogwoods, crepe myrtles, Japanese maples — that fit the tight-access hand-grinder workflow. Whatever block you’re on, the grinder doesn’t have to come from anywhere else to get there.
Stump Grinding — Common Questions
Don’t see your question? Call us at (336) 259-8460.
How much does stump grinding cost in High Point?
Price tracks the stump’s diameter at the ground line and how deep you want it ground. A Small grind (under 12″ diameter) is the quickest job. A Standard grind (12 to 24″ diameter, the most common job) takes a bit longer. A Large grind (24″+ diameter, replanting depth) is the biggest, scaling with the root system and access. Multi-stump discount on the same trip. You get a firm written price before we start — request a free estimate.
How deep do you grind?
Default is 4 inches below grade for lawn — enough that grass roots take and you’ll never know a stump was there. 8 to 12 inches if you’re laying sod right after. 12 to 18 inches if you’re replanting a tree in the same spot, which gives the new root ball clean soil to grow into. We tell you in writing what depth you’re getting before we ever start the grinder.
Can I keep the grindings, or do you haul them?
Your call. Raked back into the hole, they pack down and look like fresh mulch in a day — handy if you want to seed grass over the spot and skip a trip to the garden center. Hauled off is the cleaner finish if you’re sodding right after or just want the spot gone without a mound. Either way, no extra charge.
What about the surface roots radiating from the stump?
They get ground down with the main flare so the spot lies flat. We don’t trace roots out across the whole yard — that’s separate work with different equipment — but the visible radiating roots around the stump come out with it. No tripping ridges left behind in the lawn.
Will the grinder fit through my backyard gate?
We need 36 inches minimum for the narrow-track hand grinder, 48 inches for the self-propelled machine. Mention your gate width when you call and we’ll bring the right grinder. Tight access doesn’t change the job — it changes the machine and the time, both of which we factor into the written quote.
Do I need to mark utility lines before you show up?
We call 811 before we start, every job, no exceptions. It’s free and it’s the only way to grind without hitting a gas, water, or fiber line. You don’t have to do anything; just don’t schedule us same-day if you want the locates marked before we arrive. North Carolina law requires 3 business days for utility locate response.
Can I plant a new tree in the same spot after?
Yes, if we grind deep enough (12 to 18 inches below grade) and haul the grindings out. The grindings themselves are too high in carbon to support new tree roots, but the soil below them is fine. Tell us “replanting depth” when you book and we’ll grind accordingly. Backfill the hole with topsoil before you set the new root ball.
How long does the spot take to settle?
A few weeks for the surface to compact after you rake or sod over it. Plan for a slight depression to appear as the grindings break down — top it up with soil once. After 3 to 6 months it’s permanent and you’ll never know a stump was there.
Do you grind stumps from trees you didn’t remove?
Yes. We grind any stump, not just the ones we cut down. Common with stumps left by storm-damaged trees, by other tree services who didn’t include grinding in their quote, or by DIY removals where the chainsaw work is done but the stump remains. Same pricing, same written quote.
Do you also work outside High Point?
Yes, we cover the whole Triad. Our grind service area runs from Archdale and Trinity south of us, west to Winston-Salem and Clemmons, north to Kernersville, and east to Greensboro, with Lexington on the longer routes. Each town has its own dedicated page on our site — check the menu, or call and we’ll tell you straight whether we cover your zip code.
