We clear the lot. We leave it grading-ready.
Chainsaws for the canopy, chipper for the brush, skid steer to load the trunks, stumps ground in-place. Every Winston-Salem lot clear covers the six items below.
Property Lines + Tree Survey in Writing
We walk the property with you, agree on the line of clearing, ribbon the keep trees, photograph everything. The line we agreed to is the line we cut to. No "oops, we took the wrong oak."
Chainsaw the Canopy, Chipper for the Brush
Crew sections the canopy down with chainsaws. Limb material runs through the chipper into the dump truck. No burn pile, no smoke, no neighbor calling the city. The brush leaves with us in chip form.
Trunk Drop + Cleanup in One Pass
Once the canopy is down and chipped, the standing trunks come down. Logs cut to length and either left for you as firewood or loaded by the skid steer onto the dump trailer for haul. Your call before we start.
Stumps Ground In-Place, To the Depth You Need
4 inches for lawn-ready, 8 to 12 inches for sod or fence-post lines, 12 to 18 inches for replanting depth, or ground flush for a builder pad. One trip, no return visit, no separate stump invoice.
Debris Removal + Final Grading Pass
What doesn't mulch in place, the trunks, the root balls, the stray brush, gets loaded and hauled. We do a final pass with the skid steer to rake the surface, smooth the ruts, and leave the lot grading-ready for the next trade.
Stake-Ready Handoff to the Next Contractor
Builder, fence company, landscaper, surveyor. We coordinate with whoever's coming next so the lot lands in the right state. Final photos sent same day to you and, if you authorize, directly to your GC.
A backyard pool clear is a one-day skid-steer job. A builder's 3-acre subdivision cut is a week of multi-trailer haul-outs. Here's how we size a clear so you know what you're paying for before we ever walk the lines in Winston-Salem.
In-fill teardown sites, big residential backyards being cleared for a pool or addition, small commercial pads. One day, skid steer + chainsaw + chipper, stumps ground in-place. Most common in the in-fill blocks around Buena Vista and the older streets of West End and Ardmore.

Standard Lot
The bread-and-butter clear. Subdivision lots being cleared for new construction, hobby-farm sections being opened up, light commercial pads. Chainsaw crew on the canopy, chipper running in parallel, skid steer cycling trunks to the dump trailer, stumps ground in-place, 2 to 3 days from first cut to graded-ready.
Builder-development clears, big rural cuts, agricultural conversions. Multiple chainsaw crews on the canopy, chipper running all day into the dump truck, skid steer cycling trunks onto the dump trailer in repeat haul-outs. Multi-day jobs with daily progress photos. Coordination with your civil engineer or GC so the grading hits the plans.

Acreage at the Property Lines
What we're actually clearing is the area inside the marked lines, not the deed acreage. A 1-acre deed with a 0.4-acre clearing footprint is a Standard Lot job, not a Large Clear. We walk the lines with you before the quote.
Canopy Density & Tree Mix
A 1/2-acre of 80-foot oaks takes longer than a 1/2-acre of 30-foot scrub pine. Crew-day count and chipper hours scale to the work, not the deed.
Stump Depth for the Next Use
Lawn-ready (4") is cheap; replanting depth (12-18") takes longer; builder-pad flush is the standard for new construction. Tell us what's coming next and we'll match the stump depth to it.
Site Access & Haul Distance
A lot off a paved road is straightforward. A lot at the end of a rutted easement adds equipment-relocation time and haul-out trips. We measure both before the quote.
Two things most clearing crews can't promise.
Two of the biggest reasons a lot clear goes sideways: an uninsured crew, or a quote that never shows up. We built 316 Tree Services around solving both.
Fully insured, Triad-wide
Fully insured on every clear. Ask for our certificate before we start; we keep it ready. You're never on the hook for a crew running chainsaws and a skid steer on your lot.

I was extremely pleased with the service I received. They cut down several trees and cleared a large section of bushes in my backyard. They were pleasant and efficient and the cost was very reasonable.

In-fill teardown clears in the older Buena Vista and West End lots, plus builder-development cuts running west toward Brookberry Farm and the Lewisville edge. Stumps ground in-place, debris hauled, lot left grading-ready.
This is home. The fleet lives in this yard, most of our crew lives here, and the skid steer and chipper roll out from here every morning. No drive time to bake into your quote.
From Fisher Park and Sunset Hills to the newer builds past Friendly Center. In-fill teardown clears and builder-lot cuts near rooflines are what we get called for most here.
A short hop from our High Point shop, so we can usually be out for a free clearing estimate the same day you call. Land clearing for new builds off NC-66 has been steady this year.
Mostly backyard clears and debris cleanup after summer storms. We know which streets our crew can roll the trailer down without losing a mirror to a low limb.
A bit of a drive, but worth it. We've built a steady following here for clean lot clears on mature hardwoods. Free estimate and no fuel surcharge, even at this distance.
Some of the biggest old-growth trees in our service area, so clears here often need the bigger rig and repeat haul-outs. We handle the permits and city notifications when needed near a road.

Winston-Salem gets the same equipment-relocation honesty.
The Winston-Salem lot clear runs west on I-40 from the High Point shop, about twenty miles. The skid steer and the chipper roll on the trailer by morning, the dump truck pulls in behind for the haul-outs, and a Brookberry Farm-adjacent builder who walks the lines on Monday usually has the lot cleared by end of week. Winston-Salem gets the same equipment-relocation honesty High Point gets.
Land clearing in Winston-Salem splits two ways. The in-fill teardown work clusters in the historic-canopy core — Buena Vista, West End, Ardmore — where 100-year heritage canopies come down to make room for a new build on a 1920s lot. Tight access, mature trees over slate-roof neighbors, careful section work before the chipper ever rolls in. The new-construction work runs west — Brookberry Farm-adjacent, the Lewisville-edge subdivisions, the Clemmons-line spec builds — where the builder needs three of five acres cleared to a graded handoff. Either way the stumps come out, the debris hauls out, and the lot leaves grading-ready. Got a lot to clear? Call (336) 259-8460.

How much does land clearing cost in Winston-Salem?
Price tracks the acreage inside the marked lines and the canopy density. Small Lot (under 1/4 acre) is the quickest job. Standard Lot (1/4 to 1 acre) is the most common. Large Clear (1 acre+) is the biggest, scaling with crew-day count and the number of haul-out trips. Written firm price after we walk the lines with you — request a free estimate.
Will I get a burn pile?
No. The chipper runs the brush into the dump truck and we haul it off the lot. No burn permit, no smoke, no neighbor calling the city. The brush leaves with us in chip form.
What about the stumps?
Ground in-place on the same trip, no separate visit, no separate invoice. Tell us what's coming next (lawn / sod / fence / replant / builder pad) and we'll match the depth to it.
Do you need a survey or plot plan?
A current survey is best. If you don't have one, we walk the property with you and the deed map, mark the lines with ribbon and stakes, and photograph everything before the first cut. We do not clear past a marked line, ever — even if you tell us to mid-job.
Can you save specific trees?
Yes, and we'd rather you tell us which ones. Walk the lot with us, mark the keep trees with the orange ribbon we bring, and we work around them. The chainsaw crew follows the ribbon.
How long does a clear take?
Small Lot: 1 day. Standard Lot: 2 to 3 days. Large Clear: 4+ days, sometimes 1 to 2 weeks for the bigger builder developments. Daily progress photos go to you and (if you authorize) to your GC.
Do you coordinate with my builder or fence company?
Yes. Tell us who's coming next and what state they need the lot in (graded to plan, stake-ready, sod-ready, fence-line-cleared). We hand off directly. Final photos to your GC same day.
What about permits?
In most Winston-Salem and Forsyth County jurisdictions, land clearing on a single-family parcel doesn't need a separate permit, but new construction does. We're not the permit-puller — that's the builder's lane — but we can tell you the typical Forsyth County process and which agency to start with.
Do you work around utilities, septic, or wells?
Yes. We mark Duke Energy lines (call 811 before we start), septic field lines, and well heads with flags before any equipment runs. Above-ground utility setbacks (35 feet from live wires) are absolute.
Do you clear lots outside Winston-Salem?
Yes. Our land-clearing routes run from High Point east of us, out to Clemmons and Lewisville west, and as far as Kernersville on the I-40 commuter belt. Multi-acre rural clears go further when the job justifies the equipment-relocation. Call and we'll tell you straight what the drive does to the quote.
Let's clear that lot. Ready for what's next.
Tell us about the lot and we'll call you back the same day to walk the lines and give you an honest, no-obligation quote. Storm emergency? Call us any time, day or night.
